The MotionMonitor Scholastic

Used in conjunction with course work in biomechanics, physical therapy, sports medicine and neuro-science, The MotionMonitor Scholastic enables the student to connect theory to actual practice in a way that was not possible before.

 The MotionMonitor Scholastic

The MotionMonitor Scholastic is a full featured copy of the traditional research software that provides the student with real-world data to augment the study of human motion.  Used in conjunction with course work in biomechanics, physical therapy, sports medicine and neuro-science, The MotionMonitor Scholastic enables the student to connect theory to actual practice in a way that was not possible before.  For the instructor, The MotionMonitor Scholastic provides techniques to better evaluate student comprehension and their ability to apply theory to practical situations.

What can I do with The MotionMonitor Scholastic?

  • The MotionMonitor Scholastic includes all of the model building and analysis tools of the full featured software but does not include acquisition of data from motion capture hardware.
  • Scholastic is used together with data sets and preference files provided by the instructor to augment the instructor's lectures.
  • The student can also pursue independent study using the data sets of various activities available on the website.
  • Students can build their own model from C3D files; generate data from The MotionMonitor drop-downs; or compute their own data with the User Defined Data dialogs.
  • Students can compare functional measures that result from biomechanical models that are generated from different marker sets or that use different landmarks, different techniques for locating joint centers and different definitions of local coordinate systems.
  • Students can analyze range of motion, joint forces and moments and reaction times associated with various activities that include quiet standing, walking, running, lifting, throwing, golfing, and tennis.
  • Students can develop hypotheses and perform statistical analyses with data generated from The MotionMonitor's Data Reduction functions which ensemble average and normalize data across trials and subjects.
